Orlando Pirates ease past Milford FC as Tshepang Moremi scores twice

Orlando Pirates began their Carling Knockout Cup title defence with a comfortable 3-0 win over Milford FC on Tuesday, with Tshepang Moremi scoring twice to send the Buccaneers into the next round.

The hosts made an assertive start at the opening of the match, with Ghampani Lungu and Moremi both trying their luck inside the first five minutes.

Their pressure paid off in the 15th minute. Moremi created the opportunity for Thapelo Mokobodi, who finished to put Orlando Pirates ahead.

Milford FC struggled to contain their opponents as Orlando Pirates continued to control the attacking play. Thalente Mbatha and Evidence Makgopa both went close to extending the lead before the break.

Moremi eventually added a second shortly after the half-hour mark. He raced beyond the goalkeeper after receiving a through ball from Mbatha and calmly completed the move.

Lungu was forced off with an injury during the first half, with Mpho Padime introduced in his place. The substitute quickly made his mark, setting up Moremi to score his second and complete the 3-0 victory.

Milford FC offered more threat after half-time, but they were unable to find a way through against an Orlando Pirates side that remained in control.

The Buccaneers now progress to the next round of the competition they won last season.
