Ilias Akhomach injury raises concern for Morocco ahead of Niger doubleheader
Morocco winger Ilias Akhomach is a doubt for the national team’s upcoming camp after suffering a muscle problem at Spanish club Villarreal.
The injury could affect the Moroccan international’s availability for coach Mohamed Ouahbi’s squad as the Atlas Lions prepare for their two matches against Niger in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Akhomach was absent from Villarreal’s training session after experiencing muscle discomfort following the team’s latest Spanish league match against Valencia.
Villarreal coach confirms injury
Villarreal coach Inigo Perez confirmed that Akhomach was dealing with a muscle problem but admitted that the club did not yet know how long he would be unavailable.
“We will miss Elias, and I do not know how long his absence will last, because he suffers from a muscle problem”.
The winger’s recovery timeline remains unclear, leaving uncertainty over whether he will be fit to join Morocco for the upcoming international fixtures.
Morocco await update ahead of Niger matches
Akhomach’s injury is a concern for Ouahbi as Morocco prepare for their two AFCON qualifying encounters against Niger.
His availability will depend on the progress of his recovery and the length of his absence from Villarreal action.
With the national team camp approaching, Morocco will be hoping the winger can recover in time to be considered for selection.
