Ruud Gullit urges Ajax to give Moroccan teenager Abdellah Ouazane time to develop
Former Netherlands international Ruud Gullit has urged patience with Moroccan youngster Abdellah Ouazane, warning against putting excessive pressure on the Ajax Amsterdam prospect to become a regular starter before he is ready.
Gullit believes the 17-year-old has considerable potential but needs time to develop, with the right support and protection crucial at this stage of his career.
Gullit warns against rushing Ajax youngster
Speaking on Ziggo Sport’s Rondo show, Gullit highlighted the importance of allowing Ouazane to mature rather than expecting him to feature in every starting line-up.
“There are those who say Ouazane should always play, but sometimes you also have to protect him,” Gullit said.
The former Dutch international pointed to Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal as an example of a young player who has enjoyed regular opportunities despite his age. However, he stressed that the Spanish star is an exception rather than a standard that every teenage talent should be expected to match.
Gullit also praised Ouazane’s style of play, describing the freedom and spontaneity he brings to the game as refreshing. He emphasised the need to give young players room to express their individual qualities on the pitch without unnecessary restrictions.
Ouazane attracts attention with Ajax performances
The Moroccan youngster’s growing reputation follows a promising spell with Ajax, where his recent displays have attracted interest from several leading European clubs.
Ouazane has also been in impressive scoring form, finding the net in consecutive matches against Atalanta and Sparta Rotterdam.
As attention around the teenager continues to grow, Gullit’s message is clear: his development should be prioritised over expectations for immediate, consistent involvement in the starting XI.
