Al Shamal secured their first victory of the AFC Champions League Elite league phase by beating Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal 3-1 in their third-round match.
Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane, the former Al Ahly player, was among the goalscorers as the Qatari club ended a run of two draws in the competition.
Wesley and Baghdad Bounedjah also scored for Al Shamal, while Salem Al-Dawsari replied for Al Hilal with the visitors’ only goal.
Al-Dawsari’s strike was his first for Al Hilal this season after he recovered from injury.
The result lifted Al Shamal to five points and sixth place in the league standings. They had drawn their opening two matches before claiming their first win of the current campaign.
Al Hilal, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat after winning their previous two games. Their points total remained at six, leaving them fifth in the table.
