Thomas Tuchel says Harry Kane’s Ballon d’Or success represents official recognition from the football world for the England captain’s outstanding ability.
Kane was named the world’s best player for 2026 at the 70th Ballon d’Or ceremony, organised by French magazine France Football and held in London.
“Congratulations, Harry, on your deserved Ballon d’Or victory,” Tuchel said in comments reported by The Independent.
“I ran out of words to describe your performances a long time ago, but I am extremely happy to see the football world officially recognise you now.”
Kane becomes the first English player to receive the honour in 25 years. Tuchel said that achievement made the award particularly significant and praised the striker’s influence as England captain.
“Being the first English player to win this great honour for 25 years makes the achievement even more special, and we are fortunate to have you as our captain,” he added.
Tuchel said Kane would enjoy the occasion with those closest to him before returning to the demands of football.
“I know you will enjoy this moment with your loved ones, and then you will return to doing what you do better than anything else: scoring goals and winning football matches,” the Germany-born manager said.
Kane produced a prolific 2025-26 campaign for Bayern Munich and England, scoring 73 goals and providing eight assists in 65 appearances.
His individual honours during the previous season included the European Golden Shoe, the Bundesliga top-scorer award and the Bundesliga Player of the Season prize.
He also helped Bayern Munich complete a domestic treble before winning a bronze medal with England at the 2026 World Cup. Kane scored six goals during the tournament.
