Jayden Adams remembered at 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony

Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Jayden Adams was honoured at the 2026 Ballon d’Or Awards, months after his death at the age of 25.

Adams died in July 2026, shortly after representing South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He played in Bafana Bafana’s matches against Mexico, the Czech Republic and South Korea.

The annual Ballon d’Or ceremony is primarily known for recognising the world’s outstanding footballer, but this year’s event also included a tribute to Adams.

His death prompted widespread shock in South Africa and internationally. The former Bafana Bafana player was remembered at the prestigious ceremony alongside two departed football figures, Franco Baresi and Kevin Keegan.

Adams’ inclusion in the tribute reflected the impact of his sudden passing following South Africa’s World Cup campaign.
