Mayulu and Godts send PSG top of Ligue 1 with victory over Lyon

Paris Saint-Germain moved to the Ligue 1 summit after second-half goals from substitutes Senny Mayulu and Mika Godts secured a 2-0 win against Lyon at the Parc des Princes.

Luis Enrique’s side started strongly despite being without several important players because of injury. Desire Doue and Fabian Ruiz both threatened during the opening stages, while Lyon goalkeeper Dominik Greif kept the visitors level with an excellent save to deny Ferran Torres.

Lyon gradually found a way into the match and created chances of their own. Julien Duranville went close to breaking the deadlock, but Matvey Safonov reacted sharply to tip his close-range effort over the crossbar.

Zachary Athekame also posed a threat as Lyon grew in confidence, leaving PSG unable to turn their early dominance into a goal before half-time.

The hosts continued to apply pressure after the interval. Joao Neves fired over from inside the penalty area, while Lyon remained capable of causing problems at the other end.

Safonov was required again when Moussa Niakhate met a cross with a header. The PSG goalkeeper produced another fine stop to prevent Lyon from taking the lead.

With the score still 0-0, Enrique made changes in an attempt to unlock the visitors’ defence, bringing on Lucas Hernandez, Godts and Mayulu.

The substitutions had the desired effect. Mayulu opened the scoring with a powerful finish after receiving the ball from Godts on the edge of the penalty area. The midfielder struck low into the bottom corner for his first goal of the season.

Lyon continued to search for a response, but PSG secured the points six minutes before the end.

Quentin Ndjantou’s long pass found Godts, who moved inside a defender before curling an excellent effort beyond Greif. It was the forward’s first goal for PSG.

The result put PSG at the top of Ligue 1 and extended their impressive run of form. Lyon’s defeat was their third successive away loss, a sequence they had not experienced since May 2025.

The latest setback leaves Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca with plenty to address in his side’s performances on the road.
