Juma Bah handed two-match Bundesliga suspension after Union Berlin red card
FC Augsburg defender Juma Bah has been handed a two-match Bundesliga suspension following his dismissal during Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Union Berlin.
The German Football Association (DFB) confirmed on Monday that its sports court had suspended the 20-year-old centre-back for two league matches after ruling that he had committed serious foul play. The decision is final and legally binding.
Bah was sent off in the 63rd minute after catching Union Berlin midfielder András Schäfer with a high, outstretched challenge. His dismissal left both teams with ten players, with Augsburg eventually sharing the points after a closely contested encounter.
Bah available for DFB-Pokal clash
Despite the suspension, Bah remains eligible to feature in Augsburg’s DFB-Pokal second-round match against SG Sonnenhof Großaspach on Tuesday because the ban applies only to league fixtures.
Head coach Manuel Baum had anticipated the possibility of using the defender once the DFB’s decision was confirmed.
“My understanding is that the verdict has to be issued before he becomes eligible to play. And it looks as though that will happen soon,” Baum said before the ruling was announced.
However, the Augsburg manager has not guaranteed Bah a place in the team. He intends to assess the squad’s condition during the final training session, particularly because several players are dealing with muscular complaints.
“I have to wait for training,” Baum added.
Augsburg await Bah’s return to Bundesliga action
Bah will miss Augsburg’s next two league matches as a result of the suspension, dealing a setback to the club’s defensive options.
The defender has shown promise since joining the German side and will be eager to return to Bundesliga action once his suspension has been served.
For now, his immediate availability for the cup tie offers Augsburg an alternative in defence, although Baum’s final selection will depend on the player’s readiness and the team’s overall fitness.
The club will hope to progress in the DFB-Pokal before turning its attention back to the Bundesliga, where Bah will remain unavailable for the next two fixtures.
