Al Ahly contract talks with Mohamed Hany stalled over appearance clause

Al Ahly’s negotiations with Mohamed Hany over a new contract remain unresolved, with the player’s request to be exempt from the club’s appearance-based payment clause the only outstanding disagreement.

The right-back’s current deal expires at the end of the season, meaning he will be free to sign for another club from next January without a transfer fee being paid to Al Ahly.

FilGoal.com understands that Hany has proposed extending his contract for five or six seasons as a demonstration of his intention to remain at the club and his lack of desire to move elsewhere. He has also accepted Al Ahly’s financial offer.

However, the 30-year-old wants to be excluded from the percentage-of-appearances condition, a request the club continues to reject.

Al Ahly have held two meetings with Hany in Uganda and another in Cairo, but none has produced progress towards an agreement.

The failure to settle the contract issue was partly behind the club’s decision to leave Hany out of the squad for the match against Kitara of Uganda.

Al Ahly manager Hussein Amouta also omitted Hany and Imam Ashour from the squad for that game.

The club abolished the appearance clause in its regulations in 2018 for players who had made more than 200 appearances for Al Ahly. The threshold was later increased to 300 matches.

Hany last renewed his contract with Al Ahly in 2024, signing a three-year extension.

The club have already completed contract renewals for Imam Ashour, Marwan Attia, Mostafa Shobeir and Karim El Debes.

Negotiations are still under way between Al Ahly and both Hany and Yasser Ibrahim, with the club yet to announce new agreements for the pair.

Hany came through Al Ahly’s youth system before being promoted to the first team in 2015.

During his time with the club, he has won eight league titles, four Egypt Cups, four African Champions League titles, two African Super Cups and four Egyptian Super Cups.
