Al Ahly football director Wael Gomaa has denied reports that midfielder Ahmed Reda had a heated confrontation with head coach Hussein Ammouta.
Reda was left out of Al Ahly’s squad for the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup round-of-32 tie against Ugandan side Kitara.
“What has been reported about a confrontation between Hussein Ammouta and Ahmed Reda is untrue and completely baseless,” Gomaa told FilGoal.com.
Reda trained normally with Karim El Debes and Mohamed Cristovao before the match after being omitted from the squad, according to information obtained by FilGoal.com.
Al Ahly won the second leg 4-0 against Kitara to complete their progress to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Hussein El Shahat scored twice, while Mohamed Magdy “Afsha” and Taher Mohamed Taher also found the net.
The result secured Al Ahly’s third appearance in the group stage of the competition. They previously reached that stage in 2013, when they went on to win the trophy, and in 2015, when they were eliminated in the semi-finals.
It is the fourth time Al Ahly have entered the CAF Confederation Cup. Their previous campaign came in the 2008 season, when they were knocked out by Angolan club Santos in the round of 16 after a penalty shootout.
The victory also saw Al Ahly reach 700 goals in all African competitions. Hussein El Shahat scored the landmark goal, opening the scoring against Kitara.
Al Ahly will discover their three group-stage opponents when the draw takes place next Wednesday.
