Kylian Mbappe closes in on Cristiano Ronaldo record after scoring against Barcelona

Kylian Mbappe continued his prolific record against Barcelona by scoring for Real Madrid in El Clasico at Camp Nou.

Real Madrid lead Barcelona 2-1 in the ongoing match, with Mbappe’s goal taking his total to 258 in Europe’s top five leagues. That figure moves him beyond former Real Madrid forward Raul Gonzalez, who scored 256 league goals.

The France international has also become one of the leading scorers in El Clasico since joining Real Madrid. Mbappe and Barcelona forward Raphinha have both scored eight goals in the fixture during that period, while Robert Lewandowski is next with four.

Mbappe has been responsible for eight of the 12 goals Real Madrid have scored against Barcelona since his arrival at the club. His goals therefore account for 58% of the Spanish side’s total in meetings with their rivals during that time.

Mbappe leads La Liga El Clasico scoring

In El Clasico matches in La Liga, Mbappe is the leading scorer since moving to Real Madrid, with six goals. Samuel Eto’o follows with four.

The latest goal also moved Mbappe closer to the leading scorers in official matches between the two clubs since 2000. He has scored 14 times against Barcelona in that period, putting him behind Karim Benzema on 16 and Cristiano Ronaldo, who leads the list with 20.

Mbappe’s latest milestones have come during a match in which Real Madrid are attempting to reduce Barcelona’s advantage at the top of the La Liga table.

Barcelona began the game with 27 points from nine wins, having taken the maximum available points from those matches. Real Madrid were third with 21 points.

The result remains undecided while the match continues at Camp Nou, but Mbappe’s goal has already added to his growing statistical impact in one of European football’s most prominent fixtures.
