Barcelona fans unveiled a spectacular red-and-blue mosaic at Camp Nou before Sunday’s El Clasico against Real Madrid, using the display to urge their players towards victory in the 10th round of La Liga.
The first and second tiers of the stadium were completely covered by cards forming the message “Batec blaugrana”, which means “blue and red heartbeats”. The design also featured waves, symbolising the beating hearts and passion of Barcelona supporters as they awaited the meeting with their long-standing rivals.
The tribute was displayed immediately before kick-off, adding to the anticipation among the home crowd for one of the most important fixtures of the season.
It was the second mosaic to be shown at Camp Nou since the stadium was renovated. The first was unveiled last season for another El Clasico against Real Madrid.
On that occasion, blue and red cards formed the Barcelona crest and the words “Forca Barca”, while the southern stand also displayed the flag of Catalonia, known as the Senyera.
Barcelona began the match at the top of the La Liga table with a perfect record of 28 points. Real Madrid entered the fixture in third place, six points behind their rivals.
