Juventus return to winning ways with 2-0 victory over Lecce

Juventus ended a two-match winless run by beating Lecce 2-0 in the eighth round of the Italian league.

Weston McKennie opened the scoring in the 29th minute, finishing a well-worked free-kick routine to give the home side the lead.

Douglas Luiz doubled Juventus’ advantage 12 minutes later with a low shot from outside the penalty area.

The result provides some relief for Juventus after defeats and frustration in their previous two matches. They lost 3-0 to Lazio in the Italian league before drawing 2-2 with Rennes in the Europa League.

There is now expected to be a period of calm at the club after supporters turned on the players in recent matches. Fans had jeered and insulted the squad, with one club scarf also being burned.

Juventus’ victory moves them to 14 points and seventh place in the Italian league table.

Lecce remain on nine points in 12th position.
