Bryan Lasme in contention for Schalke squad return against FC Koln
Bryan Lasme is closing in on his first Bundesliga matchday squad appearance of the season after making encouraging progress in his recovery from a long-term calf injury.
The 27-year-old forward is now an option for FC Schalke 04’s away fixture against FC Köln on Saturday after successfully completing two recent outings without experiencing further discomfort.
Head coach Miron Muslić confirmed the positive development during his pre-match press conference, revealing that Lasme has been fit for several weeks and is gradually rebuilding his match fitness.
“Basically, he has been fit for weeks,” Muslić explained.
Lasme gained valuable playing time during the international break, completing 45 minutes in a friendly against Austria’s SC Austria Lustenau. He subsequently played another half in a match for Schalke’s reserve team, completing both appearances without any recurrence of his injury.
“Accordingly, he is an option for the squad on Saturday,” the Schalke coach confirmed.
Lasme’s potential return comes at an important time for Schalke, who are dealing with several absences ahead of their trip to Cologne.
Moussa Sylla remains unavailable after sustaining an injury against Freiburg, while captain Kenan Karaman will also miss the encounter because of muscular problems. Edin Džeko, meanwhile, remains a doubt as he recovers from a head wound.
Lasme could therefore provide Muslić with another attacking option as Schalke look to improve their offensive output.
The forward has endured a frustrating period because of recurring fitness problems, but his recent appearances suggest he is moving closer to a competitive return.
Although inclusion in the matchday squad appears possible, it remains unclear whether Lasme will receive any minutes against Cologne.
For now, the priority is to continue building his fitness and ensure he can contribute consistently after his lengthy spell on the sidelines.
