Jan Gyamerah nears Elversberg return after overcoming muscle problems
Jan Gyamerah is expected to be available for SV Elversberg’s Bundesliga away fixture against RB Leipzig on Saturday after recovering from muscular problems and returning to full training.
The 31-year-old right-back completed the entire training session on Thursday, including an intensive tournament-style exercise, according to the Saarbrücker Zeitung. His return represents a positive development for Elversberg ahead of their trip to the Red Bull Arena.
Gyamerah had been substituted during Elversberg’s recent 4-3 victory over FC Augsburg after experiencing discomfort. However, head coach Vincent Wagner subsequently indicated that the decision was precautionary rather than the result of a serious injury.
The defender’s ability to complete Thursday’s session without reported problems suggests he has made a full recovery, putting him in contention for Saturday’s encounter.
Gyamerah’s potential return would provide Elversberg with another defensive option as they prepare to face one of the Bundesliga’s strongest home sides.
However, the Ghanaian international may still face competition for his place in the starting lineup. Luca Sirch deputised during Gyamerah’s absence and impressed, giving Wagner an alternative at right-back.
Elversberg travel to Leipzig on Saturday, October 24, with kick-off scheduled for 15:30 local time. Although Gyamerah’s return to the squad appears increasingly likely, the final decision on his involvement rests with Wagner.
After overcoming his recent fitness problems, the defender will hope to return to action and help Elversberg secure a positive result on the road.
