Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib issues warning to ‘unloyal’ players

Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib has warned any player who does not show loyalty to the club that they will be held responsible for their actions.

Speaking at a ceremony honouring the club’s men’s and women’s handball teams, El Khatib said: “A message to any unloyal player wearing the Al Ahly shirt: they have nobody to blame but themselves.”

The warning came after Al Ahly’s football team were held to a 3-3 draw by Al Qanah in the seventh round of the league.

Al Ahly are second in the table with 17 points, four points behind leaders Pyramids.

The club held Thursday evening’s ceremony to recognise the achievements of its men’s and women’s handball sides. Hassan Mostafa, president of the International Handball Federation, and Khaled Fathy, president of the Egyptian Handball Federation, attended the event.

El Khatib praised both teams for winning the African title in Angola.

Al Ahly’s men claimed the competition for the fourth consecutive time and the ninth time in the club’s history. They also won the bronze medal at the recent Club World Cup, which was hosted by Egypt.

The Al Ahly women’s handball team won the African title for the second time.
