Mourinho’s Bernabeu record puts Real Madrid in commanding position before Leipzig test
Real Madrid have won all six of their home matches this season under Jose Mourinho, reinforcing the Santiago Bernabeu’s reputation as a fortress before Wednesday’s Champions League meeting with RB Leipzig.
The Spanish club have scored 19 goals in those six games, an average of 3.17 per match, according to AS. That represents a significant improvement on the same stage last season, when Real Madrid scored 11 times under former manager Xabi Alonso.
Mourinho has overseen the team’s strong home form during both his first spell and his current tenure at the club. The match against Leipzig will be his 95th in charge of Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
He has won 80 of his previous 94 home matches, giving him an 85% success rate in the stadium, AS reported.
Real Madrid go into the third round of the Champions League in ninth place with six points. Leipzig are 23rd with three points.
The match is also the final fixture before Real Madrid travel to face their domestic rivals Barcelona at Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday. That La Liga meeting is expected to be significant in the race for the Spanish title.
