Real Madrid welcome RB Leipzig to Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday seeking to extend a perfect home record which has seen them win all six of their matches there this season under Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho.
The Spanish side have beaten every visiting team at their stadium, scoring 19 goals in the process. Their victories have come against Real Sociedad (4-1), Malaga (4-0), Rayo Vallecano (4-1), Sevilla (4-1), Inter Milan (2-1) and Villarreal (1-0).
Four of those wins were achieved by a margin of at least three goals. The matches against Inter Milan and Villarreal were tighter, with Real Madrid securing both victories by a single goal.
Their home form provides a strong platform for the Champions League meeting with Leipzig, although Real Madrid’s season has not been without setbacks. Both of their defeats have come away from home in La Liga.
They lost 1-0 at Real Betis before suffering a 2-1 defeat against local rivals Atletico Madrid. Those results have contrasted with their commanding performances at Santiago Bernabeu, where they have maintained a 100% winning record.
Real Madrid begin Wednesday’s match in ninth place in the Champions League standings with six points. Leipzig are 23rd on three points, leaving both sides with an important opportunity to strengthen their position in the competition.
The fixture also comes just days before Real Madrid travel to face Barcelona at Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday in La Liga. That match carries major significance in the race for the domestic title, adding further importance to a demanding period for Mourinho’s side.
For now, Real Madrid’s focus is on preserving their unbeaten home sequence and maintaining their strong record in the Spanish capital against Leipzig.
