Marseille continued their resurgence in the French Ligue 1 with an emphatic 5-2 victory over Angers on Sunday, with Moroccan international Amine Harit among the goalscorers.

The seventh-round encounter produced seven goals, with two Moroccan internationals, Harit and Amine El Ouazzani, finding the back of the net for Marseille and Angers respectively.

Angers made a bright start to the contest, taking the lead in the 14th minute through Lilian Raolisoa, who capitalised on the hosts’ early momentum.

Marseille, however, responded strongly and restored parity in the 37th minute when Himad Abdelli found the net with a header. The visitors continued to push forward and completed the turnaround shortly before halftime, with youngster Nahoum Kamissoko scoring his first professional goal to give Marseille a 2-1 advantage at the break.

The visitors maintained their attacking intensity after the restart and extended their lead in the 60th minute, with Amine Gouiri converting from the penalty spot to make it 3-1.

Angers refused to surrender and reduced the deficit in the 75th minute when Moroccan forward Amine El Ouazzani converted a penalty, giving the home side renewed hope of mounting a comeback.

However, Marseille quickly re-established their control of the contest, with Harit producing a moment of quality in the 83rd minute. The Moroccan midfielder curled a fine effort into the net from the edge of the penalty area to restore the visitors’ two-goal cushion.

Brazilian forward Igor Paixão then completed the scoring for Marseille, finishing off a move created by Timothy Weah to seal an impressive 5-2 away victory.

The result marks Marseille’s second consecutive win following their 2-0 triumph over Troyes in the previous round, taking their points tally to nine and moving them temporarily into eighth place in the Ligue 1 standings.

Harit’s goal will also provide a boost for the Moroccan international as Marseille look to build consistency in their domestic campaign.

The French side will now turn their attention to European competition, with a trip to face Austrian outfit Sturm Graz scheduled for Thursday as they seek to carry their winning momentum into their next assignment.
