Imran Louza on target for Panathinaikos

Moroccan international Imran Louza delivered an outstanding performance for Panathinaikos, scoring his first goal for the Greek club and providing two assists in their emphatic 5-1 victory over Asteras Tripolis on Sunday.

The midfielder was instrumental in the seventh-round Greek Super League encounter, directly contributing to three of his side’s five goals to help Panathinaikos return to winning ways in the league.

Panathinaikos made a strong start to the contest and opened the scoring in the 27th minute through Stefan de Vrij before Louza doubled their advantage four minutes later, finding the net in the 31st minute to register his first goal since joining the Greek outfit.

The Moroccan continued to dictate proceedings after the break, setting up Cyriel Dessers for the third goal in the 62nd minute before providing another assist for Davide Calabria, who struck in the 72nd minute to extend the hosts’ advantage.

Asteras Tripolis briefly threatened a response when Papakanellos reduced the deficit in the 60th minute, but Panathinaikos maintained their dominance, with Tetê completing the scoring in the 83rd minute to seal a convincing 5-1 triumph.

Louza’s contribution marked one of his finest performances since arriving at the Greek club, with his goal and two assists underlining his growing influence in the team’s attacking play.

However, the victory was overshadowed by an injury to fellow Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi, who was forced off on a stretcher in the 19th minute.

Ounahi had started the encounter in the playmaking role but suffered a suspected muscular injury during a challenge, leaving the pitch early and raising concerns about his availability for the club’s upcoming fixtures.

The midfielder is expected to undergo medical examinations to establish the nature and severity of the injury, with Panathinaikos awaiting further information on his condition.

Despite the setback, the victory represented an important response from Panathinaikos following their 1-0 defeat to Olympiacos in the previous round.

The result took Panathinaikos to 18 points at the top of the Greek Super League standings, opening a two-point gap over second-placed Olympiacos, who have accumulated 16 points.
