AFCON 2025: CAS to rule on Senegal’s appeal against Morocco title at end of November

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is expected to deliver a decision at the end of November on Senegal’s appeal against the awarding of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title to Morocco.

The appeal hearing took place behind closed doors at CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Thursday, 8 October, with the panel now deliberating on the case.

CAS has confirmed that the panel is continuing its deliberations, leaving both nations waiting for a final ruling on the dispute surrounding the continental title.

The case has attracted significant attention across African football, with the outcome expected to determine the final status of the 2025 AFCON championship.

Senegal are challenging the decision to award the title to Morocco, taking the matter to the Lausanne-based sports arbitration body in a bid to overturn the ruling.

The decision, expected at the end of November, will bring clarity to the dispute and establish whether the existing decision to award Morocco the trophy will stand or be overturned.

Until CAS delivers its verdict, the case remains unresolved, with Senegal and Morocco awaiting the outcome of the appeal.

The ruling is expected to be closely watched by supporters of both countries and the wider African football community, given the significance of the AFCON title and the implications of the decision for the competition.
