Manchester United held by Leeds as winless run reaches 35 days

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United at Elland Road, extending their wait for a victory to 35 days.

The result came in the seventh round of the Premier League, with Bryan Mbeumo putting Manchester United ahead before Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised for the hosts.

Manchester United have now failed to win their past six matches in all competitions. The draw leaves them ninth in the table with nine points, while Leeds move to 10 points and seventh place.

Leeds also extended their unbeaten home run in the Premier League to eight matches. They have recorded four wins and four draws during that sequence.

Calvert-Lewin’s goal continued his strong scoring record in the competition. He has scored 18 Premier League goals since the beginning of last season, more than any other English player during that period.

Mbeumo gives United the lead

Michael Carrick selected Mbeumo to lead the Manchester United attack, with Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes also included in the starting line-up.

Leeds created the first clear opening in the 26th minute, when Calvert-Lewin met a cross with a header. Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens made the save to prevent the home side from taking the lead.

Manchester United went ahead eight minutes later. Mbeumo finished after being played through by Youri Tielemans, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute.

Leeds responded early in the second half. In the 51st minute, Tarik Muharemovic produced a header which Calvert-Lewin met with a shot into the Manchester United goal to level the score.

The visitors had an opportunity to restore their advantage in the 71st minute, when Fernandes struck a powerful effort towards goal. The Leeds goalkeeper reacted to keep the shot out.

Neither side could find a winning goal, leaving Manchester United with their fourth draw in seven Premier League matches and more points dropped in the competition.

Leeds, meanwhile, maintained a record of two wins, four draws and one defeat from their opening seven league fixtures.
