AFCON 2027 qualifiers: Morocco to host Niger in Casablanca and Rabat
Morocco will face Niger twice in November in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers as the Atlas Lions look to maintain their perfect start and strengthen their position at the top of Group A.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) confirmed on Sunday, October 18, that the two teams will meet in the third and fourth rounds of qualifying, with matches scheduled in Casablanca and Rabat.
Morocco will host Niger at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca on Friday, November 13, with kick-off at 20:00 local time.
The sides will meet again four days later, on Tuesday, November 17, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, with the match also scheduled to begin at 20:00.
The second encounter will count as Niger’s home fixture, despite being played on Moroccan soil.
Morocco seek to maintain perfect qualifying record
The November double-header presents Morocco with an opportunity to extend their winning run under head coach Mohamed Ouahbi and consolidate their position at the summit of Group A.
The Atlas Lions began their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Gabon in Rabat on September 25 before recording another 2-0 win against Lesotho in South Africa four days later.
Those results have given Morocco six points from their opening two matches, placing them top of the group.
Gabon and Niger are level on three points each, while Lesotho remain without a point.
Niger opened their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Lesotho but subsequently lost 2-0 to Gabon.
The two November meetings could therefore prove important in shaping the group standings, with Morocco aiming to preserve their advantage and move closer to securing a place at the continental finals.
Atlas Lions prepare for 2027 AFCON finals
The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
The qualifying competition features 48 national teams divided into 12 groups, with the top two teams from most groups progressing to the finals.
Following the November international window, Morocco will conclude their qualifying campaign in March 2027, when they face Gabon and Lesotho in the final two rounds.
