Brighton move second with five-goal win at Crystal Palace

Brighton & Hove Albion climbed to second in the Premier League after extending their winning run with a 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the seventh round of the competition.

The result gave Brighton four successive league wins, following victories against Coventry City, Arsenal and Sunderland before their emphatic triumph at Selhurst Park.

Brighton have moved on to 16 points, five behind leaders Manchester City, although their position is temporary until Arsenal’s match against Nottingham Forest is completed.

Crystal Palace remain 14th with seven points after suffering a heavy defeat.

Brighton opened the scoring through an own goal by Crystal Palace player Jaydee Canvot. Yasin Ayari then added a second before Kostoulas, Gomez and Hinshelwood completed the rout.

The win continues Brighton’s perfect sequence across their past four Premier League fixtures and leaves them firmly in the early title picture, while Palace must recover from their biggest setback of the campaign.

Bournemouth beat Sunderland

In the other match, Bournemouth claimed a 2-0 victory over Sunderland.

Marcus Tavernier put Bournemouth ahead before Evanilson scored the second goal to secure all three points.

Bournemouth’s victory took them to six points and 15th place in the table. Sunderland remain on four points in 19th, second from bottom.
