Ghana midfielder Rashid Abubakar starts new chapter with Saham Club

Ghanaian central midfielder Rashid Abubakar has joined Omani side Saham Club, bringing his period without a club to an end and securing a move to the Jindal League.

The 26-year-old signed for Saham on 18 September 2026 and has agreed a contract running until 31 May 2027. No transfer fee has been disclosed for the move.

Abubakar arrives at Saham after most recently playing for Mash’al. He joined the Uzbek club from Kazakhstan’s Atyrau on a free transfer in February 2026, before leaving at the end of the 2025-26 season.

The midfielder has represented clubs in several countries during his career. His previous teams include Ordabasy, Spartanii, Bahla Club, Al-Soqour Club, FK Loznica, FK Sarajevo and Accra Lions. He also spent time on loan at China’s HLJ Ice City from Accra Lions during the 2021-22 season.

Abubakar has recorded 27 appearances, one goal and two assists in the Premier League, while also featuring in the Premier Liga, Jindal League, Superliga and Serbia’s Prva liga. He has scored twice in eight appearances in the Super Liga and made five appearances in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Premijer Liga.

Born in Accra, Abubakar stands 1.78m tall and favours his right foot. His market value is listed at €100,000, while his highest recorded value has been €125,000.

Saham become the latest club in a career that has taken the Ghanaian midfielder through leagues in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. His arrival gives the Omani side a central midfielder with experience across a range of domestic competitions.

Abubakar’s contract with Saham runs until 31 May 2027.
