OGC Nice reach agreement to sign Ghana defender Alidu Seidu on loan

OGC Nice have reached an agreement to secure the services of Ghana international Alidu Seidu despite the closure of the summer transfer window.

The former Clermont Foot star is joining Nice on loan from fellow French outfit Stade Rennes after falling out of favour at the club this season.

Faced with several injury concerns in defence, Nice have decided to activate the emergency signing option, with the club reaching an agreement to sign the 26-year-old Ghanaian defender.

The Black Stars defender will join Nice on loan until the end of the season, with no option to buy included in the agreement. Stade Rennais have accepted the formula despite the player still having a contract with the club until 2029.

Seidu has fallen down the pecking a Rennes, paving the way for the move to Nice as the club looks to address its defensive injury crisis.

The Ghanaian was included in the extended squad selected by Nice coach Franck Haise for Wednesday evening’s Europa League encounter against Sturm Graz, which ended goalless.

However, Seidu is now expected to take a different path, with the defender set to travel to the French Riviera to complete his move to Nice.

His arrival is intended to help compensate for the lengthy recoveries of Moise Bombito and Antoine Mendy, while also providing Haise with an experienced defensive option.

Seidu brings significant Ligue 1 experience to the Nice squad, having made 106 appearances in the French top flight.

The Ghana international’s versatility is also expected to be valuable to Haise, as he is capable of operating both as a right-back and in the centre of a three-man defence.

Seidu will now look to complete the formalities of the move before linking up with his new teammates and competing for a place in the Nice defence.
