Mohamed Ali Gueddar: French-Moroccan midfielder joins Istres FC

French-Moroccan attacking midfielder Mohamed Ali Gueddar has joined Istres FC after leaving the club without a deal, completing his move to the National 1 Group C side on 16 September 2026.

The 27-year-old, who was born in Caen, spent the previous part of the 2026-27 season without a club after departing Swiss side FC Biel-Bienne on 10 August. He now returns to France, where he began his senior career, and adds experience in central attacking midfield to Istres’ squad.

Gueddar is predominantly an attacking midfielder and favours his right foot. He is 1.76m tall and has represented both France and Morocco as part of his nationality background. His arrival at Istres comes after a sequence of moves across France, Switzerland and Luxembourg.

He joined FC Biel-Bienne from Hesperange in July 2025 on a free transfer. Before that, he had spent the 2024-25 campaign with Hesperange after leaving Bourges FC, also on a free transfer. His earlier French clubs include Bourges Foot 18, US Granville, AS Saint-Priest, US Avranches and Mouloudia.

Gueddar began his development with SM Caen, progressing from the club’s under-17 side to its under-19 and reserve teams. He subsequently moved to EA Guingamp B before beginning a series of senior club changes in France.

His latest move places him back in the French football system with Istres, who compete in National 1 Group C. Gueddar had not made an appearance in the 2026-27 Promotion League campaign before joining the club, with no goals or assists recorded in the competition.

The transfer follows a period in which the midfielder was available after his departure from FC Biel-Bienne. No contract length has been announced for his time at Istres.

Gueddar’s move to Istres FC was completed on 16 September 2026.
