Kylian Mbappe scores for Real Madrid before sparking injury fears against Elche

Kylian Mbappe scored again for Real Madrid in their La Liga meeting with Elche on Tuesday, but briefly left the pitch after a collision with the home side’s goalkeeper, Matias Dituro.

The France international struck in the 33rd minute after receiving an excellent pass from Yan Diomande. Mbappe took the ball first time and directed it into the net to give Real Madrid a 2-0 lead in the sixth round of the competition.

However, the goal was followed by an anxious spell for Real Madrid. Mbappe went down after making contact with Dituro and remained on the ground for several minutes as team-mates and supporters waited to see whether he had suffered an injury.

He eventually left the field temporarily to receive treatment. Endrick and Carlos Espe began warming up on the touchline as Real Madrid prepared for the possibility that Mbappe would be unable to continue.

The forward soon returned to the match, easing concerns among the Real Madrid fans, and continued playing normally. He appeared determined to add to his tally against Elche, finding the net again only a few minutes after coming back on.

That effort, however, was ruled out for offside.

Mbappe’s valid goal moved him to the top of the La Liga scoring charts this season with seven goals. He leads Barcelona pair Raphinha and Lamine Yamal by one goal.
