The Moroccan national team’s lineup, coach Walid Regragui embarked on a journey to Spain, where he is set to meet with Real Madrid player Ibrahim Diaz, aiming to persuade him to represent Morocco in international competitions.
Reports from Moroccan newspapers today shed light on Regragui’s initiative, highlighting his determination to engage in discussions with Diaz regarding his potential inclusion in the Moroccan squad.
The Moroccan daily “Sport 7” stated, “Regragui has decided to travel to Spain to gauge Diaz’s interest in playing for the Moroccan national team.”
The report elaborated, emphasizing the significance of this meeting as a decisive factor in Diaz’s potential participation, stating, “This meeting will be the final and decisive one.
In the event of rejection, negotiations will not be reopened, and this matter will be definitively closed.”
Furthermore, it outlined Regragui’s broader strategy, mentioning that following his meeting with Diaz, he plans to undertake a tour across several European countries.
This tour aims to engage with players of Moroccan descent, urging them to consider representing the Moroccan national team, known as the “Atlas Lions.”
The decision to approach Diaz comes after Fawzi Lekjaa, president of the Moroccan Football Federation, extended an invitation to the player last October.
However, Diaz has yet to join the Moroccan squad despite the initial offer.
As Morocco seeks to strengthen its roster with top-tier talent, Regragui’s efforts underscore the national team’s commitment to securing players of dual nationality, highlighting the country’s determination to excel on the international stage.
