Como and Roma extend unbeaten Serie A runs with victories

Como continued their strong start to the Serie A season with a 2-1 victory over Parma, while Roma returned to the top of the table by beating Torino 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.

The result extended Roma’s league winning streak to nine matches, dating back to last season, while Como remain unbeaten. Parma are still waiting for their first league victory and will next play Genoa.

Kaiki Bruno secures Como win

Como, who impressed on their UEFA Champions League debut, made the better start at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.

Nico Paz had an effort deflected wide before Yan Couto forced a save from Parma goalkeeper Edoardo Corvi. The hosts took the lead in the 23rd minute when Jacobo Ramon met Paz’s corner and finished from inside the area.

Cesc Fabregas’ side continued to dominate possession, but Parma nearly equalised just before the interval. Simone Lontani headed Sascha Britschgi’s cross narrowly over the bar.

Parma created their clearest chance shortly after the hour mark when Emanuele Valeri picked out substitute David Romero near goal. Robert Sanchez reacted well to push the effort on to the post.

Como responded when Maxence Caqueret sent Kaiki Bruno through. The forward tried to lift the ball over Corvi but missed the target.

The home side eventually doubled their advantage in the 83rd minute. Corvi could not hold Samuele Ricci’s cross from the right and Kaiki Bruno pounced from close range.

Couto came close to a third, with Corvi making another save before Caqueret put the rebound wide. Parma pulled one back in stoppage time when Romero converted Pontus Almqvist’s cross, but Como held on.

Malen scores again for Roma

Roma also made a forceful start, with Donyell Malen missing an early opportunity after a cross had caught Lucas Perri out.

Matias Soule and Bryan Cristante went close, while Malen later had a goal disallowed for offside. Torino gradually grew into the match, with Eray Comert heading over and Rolando Mandragora forcing a save from Mile Svilar.

Roma regained control and broke the deadlock through Malen. After his initial effort was parried, he reacted first to slide the rebound into the net and score for the ninth time in as many Serie A appearances.

Nahuel Molina shot narrowly wide after the interval, but Torino became more threatening once Malen was substituted before the hour. Giovanni Simeone tested Svilar, who also kept out another Mandragora free-kick.

Perri denied Molina with an excellent save from outside the area and then tipped Gianluca Mancini’s header over the bar. Torino continued to search for an equaliser, but Niccolo Pisilli sealed the points in stoppage time by reacting quickest to a loose ball inside the area.

The victory leaves Roma at the summit and takes them closer to a club-record run of 11 consecutive Serie A wins. Torino have lost four of their past five matches and have now gone nine league games without a clean sheet.
