Bnei Sakhnin sign Dutch-Ghanaian right-back Leeroy Owusu on a free transfer

Dutch-Ghanaian right-back Leeroy Owusu has joined Israeli club Bnei Sakhnin from Danish side Odense BK on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old has moved to the Ligat ha’Al club on 14 September 2026, with his contract running until 30 June 2027. Owusu, who operates primarily at right-back and prefers his right foot, arrives after two seasons with Odense.

Owusu spent the previous three years at Odense, having joined the club from Dutch side Willem II in July 2023, also on a free transfer. During his time in Denmark, he was part of the Odense team that won the Danish second tier in 2025.

His move to Bnei Sakhnin takes him into a new league after a career largely built in the Netherlands and Denmark. Before joining Odense, Owusu played for Willem II, where he arrived from De Graafschap in 2020 in a €325,000 transfer.

The defender began his senior career with De Graafschap after coming through the Ajax academy. He also spent loan spells with Excelsior and Almere City during his development, before leaving Ajax permanently for De Graafschap in August 2018.

Owusu joined Ajax as a youth player from Purmersteijn in 2004 and progressed through the club’s under-17, under-19 and under-21 teams. He won the Dutch Under-17 title with Ajax in 2013 and the Dutch Under-19 championship a year later.

Born in Purmerend, Owusu holds Netherlands and Ghanaian nationality. He stands 1.74 metres tall and now adds experience across Dutch, Danish and Israeli football to Bnei Sakhnin’s defensive options.

The transfer gives Owusu a chance to continue his career in Israel after leaving Odense without a fee being paid. His arrival also represents the latest move in a career that has included academy success at Ajax, senior football in the Netherlands and a second-tier title in Denmark.

Owusu has completed his free transfer from Odense BK to Bnei Sakhnin, where he is contracted until June 2027.
