CAF Confederation Cup: ASKO take 5-0 lead into AS ZAM return leg

ASKO de Kara are within touching distance of the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup after a commanding first-leg victory over AS ZAM.

The Togolese side host the Nigerien club in Lome on Sunday, 13 September 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 15:30 GMT. ASKO hold a five-goal advantage after winning the first meeting 5-0 in Niamey.

The match was goalless at half-time, but ASKO produced a decisive second-half display. Claude Klidje scored twice before Zouminhi Kader Gueo, Marius Akpaho and Souleymane Coulibaly completed a comprehensive victory.

That result leaves the Kondona in a strong position to progress, with the return leg focused primarily on maintaining their advantage and securing qualification.

ASKO do not need to take unnecessary risks after keeping a clean sheet in Niger. Their priority will be to remain organised and concentrated, while looking to exploit the space that may become available as AS ZAM commit players forward in search of goals.

AS ZAM face a formidable task if they are to overturn the tie. The Nigerien club must score at least five times to draw level with ASKO, while also preventing the Togolese side from finding the net.

The scale of the challenge was underlined by the first-leg result, in which ASKO’s second-half attacking efficiency gave them a decisive advantage. The hosts now need only to confirm that superiority in Lome to move into the second preliminary round.
