Liverpool held by Fulham as Chelsea rescue point against Hull

Liverpool’s difficult start under new manager Andoni Iraola continued as Fulham earned a 0-0 draw at Anfield, while Chelsea needed a second-half equaliser from Joao Pedro to draw 2-2 with surprise package Hull City yesterday.

The results left Liverpool with three draws from their opening four Premier League matches. Their performance against Fulham was subdued, and the visitors secured their first point of the season without Liverpool having any serious grounds for complaint.

Chelsea appeared set for defeat at Stamford Bridge after falling behind to Hull, despite Morgan Rogers continuing the hosts’ run of scoring early goals with a strike after seven minutes.

Xabi Alonso’s side carried an attacking threat, but defensive errors again proved costly. Mohamed Belloumi scored twice for Hull before half-time to put the newly promoted side in control.

Hull were briefly on course to move top of the Premier League, but Joao Pedro restored parity in the 66th minute, driving the ball into the net after being set up by Cole Palmer.

Hull remain third with eight points, one behind Arsenal and Manchester City. Chelsea have seven points.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa scored their first league goal of the season but suffered a 2-1 home defeat by Nottingham Forest. Liam Delap put Forest ahead at Villa Park with his first goal for the club.

Villa eventually found the net when Brazilian defender Alysson headed in a cross from John McGinn for his first goal since joining the club. Forest nevertheless claimed victory in the 88th minute, Igor Jesus finishing after a flick by Morgan Gibbs-White.

Ipswich Town secured their second victory of the season by beating 10-man Crystal Palace 3-2 in a dramatic encounter.

Palace took the lead when Anan Khalaili converted Daichi Kamada’s pass, but Ipswich responded as Emersonn headed in from Leif Davis’ cross. Palace were reduced to 10 men before the interval when Axel Disasi was sent off for a reckless challenge on Jack Clarke.

Davis then scored on the stroke of half-time to put Ipswich ahead. Palace appeared to have salvaged a point when Jorgen Strand Larsen produced a stunning finish, but Zian Flemming struck in stoppage time to secure victory for the visitors.

Bournemouth were held to a 2-2 draw by Brentford, meaning new manager Marco Rose is still waiting for his first Premier League win.

Kevin Schade opened the scoring for Brentford before Bournemouth turned the match around through Justin Kluivert and Marcus Tavernier. Schade completed his double with a lob to preserve Brentford’s unbeaten start.
