Arthur Zwane set for part-time Bafana Bafana assistant role under Pitso Mosimane

AmaZulu FC head coach Arthur Zwane is set to meet the South African Football Association (SAFA) to finalise an agreement that would see him join Bafana Bafana’s technical staff as an assistant to Pitso Mosimane.

Zwane is expected to take up the position on a part-time basis after emerging as one of the leading candidates during SAFA’s recruitment process. The move follows the appointment of Mosimane, who recently replaced Hugo Broos as head coach of the national team.

KickOff first reported in July that Zwane had been identified as a potential assistant for Mosimane. That prospective appointment is now understood to be close to completion, with the two parties due to discuss and conclude the details of his contract.

A source close to SAFA confirmed that Zwane had agreed in principle to combine the new national-team position with his work at AmaZulu FC.

“Zwane was one of the most successful candidates after the interviews with SAFA. For now, he is expected to work with Bafana Bafana as assistant coach on a part-time basis,” said one source.

Zwane’s proposed arrival forms part of a wider restructuring of Bafana Bafana’s technical department under Mosimane. SAFA has already brought Morena Ramoreboli into the national-team setup.

Ramoreboli has returned to South Africa after spending several years in Botswana. During his time there, he also coached the Botswana national team, known as the Zebras, and led them to the AFCON tournament last year.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns performance analyst Musi Matlaba and fitness trainer Kabelo Rangoaga are also members of the technical staff that will work under Mosimane.

The changes come with Bafana Bafana preparing for the start of their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign. Their opening fixture is against Guinea at the Orlando Amstel Arena on 26 September.

Zwane’s expected part-time appointment would allow him to remain involved with AmaZulu FC while contributing to Mosimane’s plans for the national side. His experience as a coach in South African football was considered during the SAFA interviews, and he is now poised to become one of the assistants supporting the new Bafana Bafana head coach.

SAFA’s discussions with Zwane are expected to determine the final terms of the arrangement before he formally begins his work with the national team.
