Colonel-Major Oumarou Sawadogo takes over as WAFU B president after Gusau exit

Burkina Faso Football Federation (FBF) president Colonel-Major Oumarou Sawadogo has been appointed as the new president of WAFU Zone B following the resignation of Nigeria’s Ibrahim Musa Gusau.

Sawadogo, who previously served as the regional body’s second vice-president, assumes the role after Gusau stepped down amid a difficult period for Nigerian football, which saw both the Super Eagles and Super Falcons fail to qualify for their respective World Cups.

Gusau had taken over the WAFU B presidency after Ghana Football Association president Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku was elected to the CAF Executive Committee at the continental body’s congress in Egypt on 12 March 2025.

Following Okraku’s promotion to CAF second vice-president, Gusau formally assumed office at the WAFU headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Sawadogo was elected president of the Burkina Faso Football Federation on 31 August 2024, succeeding Lazare Banssé.

His elevation to the WAFU B presidency is expected to strengthen cooperation among member associations and support football development across the West African region.
