Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies drawn against Egyptian, Moroccan and Cameroonian clubs

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will face opposition from Egypt, Morocco and Cameroon in Group A of next month’s CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt.

The tournament will be held from 1 to 15 November, with the draw taking place in Cairo this week.

Sundowns have been placed alongside Egyptian club FC Masar, Morocco’s FUS Rabat and Cameroon’s Lekie Football Filles. They secured their place in the competition by winning the COSAFA Cup in August.

The South African side will begin their campaign against FC Masar on 1 November.

Sundowns Ladies are two-time winners of the Champions League. They won the inaugural edition five years ago before claiming the title again in 2023.

AS FAR begin title defence

Defending champions AS FAR of Morocco will compete in Group B, where they will meet Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Ladies and Mali’s USFAS Bamako.

The fourth team in the group will represent WAFU Zone B, although its identity has yet to be confirmed.

CAF’s eight participating teams have been divided into two groups of four. The top two sides in each group will qualify for the semi-finals, which are scheduled for 11 November.

The winners of those matches will meet in the final on 15 November to decide Africa’s leading women’s club side.

The tournament champions will represent Africa at FIFA’s Women’s Champions Cup later this year.
