Bournemouth sweep aside AC Milan as Palace and Juventus share Europa League draws

Bournemouth made it three wins from three in the Europa League league phase with a 3-0 victory over AC Milan, while Crystal Palace drew 2-2 with Besiktas in Istanbul and Juventus were held by Rennes by the same scoreline on Thursday.

Sunderland also preserved their unbeaten record with a 1-1 draw at Lech Poznan as Matchday 3 delivered goals and late drama across Europe.

Bournemouth punish Milan

Bournemouth took control with two first-half penalties from Justin Kluivert and Marcus Tavernier. AC Milan’s difficult opening was compounded when goalkeeper Mike Maignan was sent off.

The hosts continued to create chances after the interval, with Ryan Christie and Adrien Truffert both going close. Amine Adli completed the win six minutes from time with an outstanding free-kick.

Palace held in Istanbul

Crystal Palace and Besiktas traded four goals in an entertaining match in Turkey, with both teams having chances to secure victory.

Besiktas moved in front shortly before half-time when Wilfred Ndidi finished after a fine pass from Salih Ozcan. Palace responded after the break as Yeremy Pino levelled, before Jean-Philippe Mateta put the visitors ahead with a spectacular effort during a five-minute spell.

The hosts refused to surrender and substitute Junior Olaitan made it 2-2 in the 73rd minute. Besiktas were reduced to 10 men four minutes later when Umit Akdag was sent off, but still held on for a point.

Juventus and Sunderland remain unbeaten

Juventus extended their unbeaten start but had to settle for a draw after Rennes twice came from behind. Zeki Celik put the Italian side ahead in the fifth minute, converting after being set up by Nick Woltemade.

Musa Al-Taamari equalised for Rennes from close range in the 15th minute, and Boulaye Dia’s penalty gave the French side the lead shortly before half-time. Woltemade restored parity from the spot in the 66th minute for his third goal of the campaign.

Sunderland scored after only two minutes at Lech Poznan, when 21-year-old striker Timur Tutierov headed in following Nilson Angulo’s interception. Malick Fofana hit the woodwork as the visitors sought a second, while goalkeeper Robin Roefs made several important saves.

Leo Bengtsson levelled for Lech with a well-taken finish in the 70th minute. Roefs produced more crucial stops late on and Chris Rigg curled an effort narrowly over as both sides searched for a winner.

Real Sociedad’s biggest result of the night came in a 6-0 away win at Lillestrom, with Sergio Gomez and Luka Sucic scoring twice each. AZ Alkmaar beat Ararat-Armenia 4-0, Bayer Leverkusen defeated OFI Crete 2-0, Benfica won 4-1 against Omonia and Ferencvaros beat Torreense by the same score.

Anderlecht won 3-0 at Jagiellonia, while Celta Vigo beat Celtic 2-1 in Glasgow after Javi Rodriguez scored twice in four minutes. Olympiacos defeated Sparta Prague 1-0, Union SG beat Hapoel Beer-Sheva 4-0 and N.E.C. Nijmegen won 4-2 at GNK Dinamo.

Levski Sofia beat Viktoria Plzen 2-1, Salzburg drew 2-2 with Celje, Sturm Graz defeated Marseille 1-0 and Hoffenheim beat Lyon 3-0.

Bournemouth, Benfica, Bayer Leverkusen, Ferencvaros and Olympiacos all have three wins from three. Bayer Leverkusen are the only team yet to concede in the competition after three rounds.
