Hugo Gambor swaps KAA Gent for Academico Viseu in Portugal

Central African Republic and France centre-back Hugo Gambor has joined Academico Viseu from Belgian club KAA Gent, bringing the 23-year-old defender to Portugal for the 2026-27 campaign.

Gambor, who was born in Blois, France, plays primarily at centre-back and is right-footed. Standing at 1.86m, he moves to a club competing in Liga Portugal after spending the previous season with Troyes on loan from Gent.

The defender’s loan spell in France ended on 30 June 2026, when he returned to KAA Gent. He subsequently completed his move to Academico Viseu on 4 September.

Gambor joined Gent from USL Dunkerque in February 2024 after beginning his senior career with Paris FC. His move to Dunkerque came as a free transfer from Paris FC in July 2022, while he had previously progressed through the youth systems at US Orleans and Blois 41.

The new signing arrives with experience of Belgian league football and European competition. His career record includes involvement in the Jupiler Pro League and UEFA Conference League qualifying, although he did not make an appearance in either competition during the current 2026-27 campaign before changing clubs.

At Gent, Gambor was part of a squad competing in Belgium’s top division. His time with Troyes provided a season in French football before he switched countries again, this time making Portugal his latest destination.

Academico Viseu become the fourth senior club of Gambor’s career, following spells with Paris FC, USL Dunkerque and KAA Gent, as well as his loan period with Troyes. The transfer also represents a return to a permanent club setting after his latest season was spent away from his parent side.

Gambor has represented both the Central African Republic and France in terms of nationality, according to his player profile. His arrival gives Academico Viseu an additional option in central defence as they begin their 2026-27 schedule.

The defender’s market value is recorded at €1.2m, while his highest recorded value has been €2m. No transfer fee has been disclosed for his move from Gent.

Gambor is now part of Academico Viseu’s squad for the 2026-27 season.
