Kenya FA expels Vice President McDonald Mariga and six other NEC members

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has expelled Vice-President McDonald Mariga and six other members of its National Executive Committee (NEC) following a Special General Meeting held in Meru on Saturday, 7 November 2026.

The decision was taken by the federation’s General Assembly, its supreme decision-making body, after deliberations over allegations of serious and repeated violations of the FKF Constitution and applicable FIFA regulations.

Mariga, a former Kenyan international, was among seven officials affected by the resolution, which also removes them from their respective positions within the federation.

The other six officials are Robert Kenneth Macharia, the Central NEC member; Bernard Korir Lagat, Upper Rift Valley NEC member; Violet Kerubo Momanyi, the FKF Women’s Representative; Collins Opiyo Kalee, Nyanza NEC member; Gabriel Mghendi, Coast NEC member; and Daniel Akala Shikanda, Nairobi NEC member.

According to a statement issued by FKF on Saturday, the allegations considered by the Assembly included a purported NEC resolution adopted on 24 April 2026 seeking the removal of FKF President and other federation officials.

The federation also cited repeated failures by the seven officials to attend duly convened NEC meetings, unauthorised communication on behalf of the federation and other actions it considered contrary to its constitution and applicable football regulations.

FKF said the General Assembly exercised its mandate under Articles 16 and 24 of the federation’s constitution, which provide for the expulsion of members and the dismissal of NEC officials.

The meeting was attended by representatives of world football governing body FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), alongside Acting Sports Registrar Chacha J. Maroa and representatives of Kenya’s State Department for Sports.

The development represents a significant shake-up within Kenya’s football administration, with Mariga’s removal particularly notable given his position as vice-president of the federation.

FKF says it remains committed to constitutional governance, institutional accountability and stability in football administration in the country.

The federation added that it would communicate further details regarding the implementation of the resolutions and the resulting administrative arrangements.
