Rio Ave sign Danish-Togolese winger Sebastian Clemmensen from IFK Goteborg

Danish-Togolese winger Sebastian Clemmensen has joined Rio Ave from IFK Goteborg for €1.4m, completing a move to the Liga Portugal club on a contract running until 30 June 2030.

The 23-year-old right winger moves to Portugal after 18 months with IFK Goteborg, who signed him from fellow Swedish club Hammarby in February 2025 for €620,000. Clemmensen’s transfer to Rio Ave represents the latest step in a career that has taken him from Denmark’s lower divisions to senior football in Sweden and now Portugal.

Clemmensen has already featured regularly for Goteborg in the early stages of the 2026-27 campaign. He started all four of the club’s Uefa Conference League qualifying matches, playing 333 minutes, although he did not score or provide an assist in those games.

A left-footed attacker who operates on the right flank, Clemmensen developed in Denmark with Kastrup BK and FCK Youth before joining Boldklubben af 1893’s under-19 side in 2020. He was part of the B.93 youth team that won the Danish second-tier youth championship in 2021.

The move to Hammarby followed his progression into B.93’s senior set-up. He joined Hammarby from B.93 in August 2024 for €550,000, before moving on to IFK Goteborg the following February.

Clemmensen’s market value is listed at €500,000, placing the reported transfer fee above that figure as Rio Ave bring him into their squad for the new season. He becomes part of a club competing in Portugal’s top flight after beginning the campaign with Conference League qualifying appearances in Sweden.

His arrival also adds a player with experience across two footballing environments. Clemmensen has spent the early part of his senior career in Denmark and Sweden, while his move to Rio Ave takes him into a new domestic league and the next stage of his development as a wide attacker.

Clemmensen has now left IFK Goteborg and signed for Rio Ave through June 2030 for €1.4m.
