Fadlu Davids targets CAF Champions League success with Young Africans despite difficult season

New Young Africans coach Fadlu Davids says he is determined to make an impact in the CAF Champions League despite the Tanzanian club’s disappointing start to the season.

Davids, who has returned to Tanzania to take charge of Yanga, acknowledges that results have not gone according to expectations but believes the continental competition presents an opportunity for the club to turn its fortunes around.

Young Africans face a challenging assignment in the CAF Champions League, with their group already being described by many observers as the ‘Group of Death’ because of the quality of opposition.

However, the South African tactician is refusing to be intimidated by the challenge and insists his ambition remains high as he prepares his team for the continental campaign.

“The season has not gone as expected so far, but we have the CAF Champions League ahead of us. Many people are calling our group the Group of Death, but I am an ambitious coach. Anything is possible,” Davids said.

The former Simba SC coach is returning to Tanzanian football with considerable expectations, having previously established himself as one of the prominent coaching figures in the country’s domestic game.

His appointment at Yanga also presents an interesting chapter in his career, given that he previously worked with their fierce rivals Simba SC.

Davids will now be tasked with rebuilding confidence, improving performances and ensuring that Young Africans remain competitive on both the domestic and continental fronts.

With the CAF Champions League offering another opportunity to compete against some of Africa’s leading clubs, the 44-year-old will be hoping to translate his ambition into results as Yanga seek to make a strong statement in the competition.
