Al Ahly’s Yasser Ibrahim strikes from outside the box to secure late win over Smouha

Yasser Ibrahim scored an 87th-minute winner from outside the penalty area as Al Ahly beat Smouha in the final match of the third round of the Egyptian Premier League.

The decisive goal gave Al Ahly their third consecutive victory of the campaign and moved them to the top of the table with nine points, level with Pyramids.

Smouha travelled to face Al Ahly at Cairo International Stadium, where the match appeared to be heading towards a draw before Yasser produced a spectacular finish three minutes from the end of normal time.

The Al Ahly player received the opportunity to shoot from distance and sent a powerful effort beyond the Smouha goalkeeper to settle the contest. It was his first goal for Al Ahly scored with a shot from outside the 18-yard box.

The strike was also Yasser’s seventh goal for Al Ahly in the Egyptian Premier League. His overall total in the competition is now nine goals, while he has scored 13 times for Al Ahly in all competitions.

His late effort proved enough to maintain Al Ahly’s perfect start after three league matches. The result leaves them on nine points, alongside Pyramids, at the top of the standings.

Yasser’s goal came in the closing stages of a match in which Al Ahly were seeking to preserve their winning run. With the score still level late on, the long-range attempt provided the moment that separated the two sides and secured all three points for the home team.

For Smouha, the defeat came away from home at Cairo International Stadium, after Al Ahly found a way to break the deadlock in the 87th minute. The outcome completed the third round of the Egyptian Premier League with Al Ahly continuing their run of victories.

The result also added another milestone to Yasser’s record with the club. Before this match, he had seven Egyptian Premier League goals for Al Ahly and 12 goals in all competitions. His strike against Smouha took those figures to seven and 13 respectively, while his overall league total reached nine.

Most significantly, the goal marked the first time he had found the net for Al Ahly with an attempt from outside the penalty area. It was a fittingly decisive contribution, arriving in the final minutes to give his side a narrow victory and keep them level on points with Pyramids at the top of the table.
