Al Qadsiah agree loan move for Otavio Edmilson to Al-Rayyan

Al Qadsiah have agreed to allow Portugal midfielder Otavio Edmilson to join Al-Rayyan on loan during the current summer transfer window, according to Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiyah.

The proposed move would see the 31-year-old spend one season with the Qatar club. The transfer has not yet been completed, but Otavio is nearing a reunion with former Al Ahly player Youssef Aymen if the deal is finalised.

Otavio joined Al Qadsiah last season after leaving Al Nassr. He made 21 appearances for the club in all competitions, providing three assists without scoring.

A move to Al-Rayyan would represent the first time Otavio has played in the Qatari league. The midfielder is now close to beginning a new chapter in his career after one season with Al Qadsiah.

Al-Rayyan have made a strong start to their league campaign, winning both of their opening two matches. They currently sit second in the table.

The agreement between Al Qadsiah and Al-Rayyan concerns a temporary transfer rather than a permanent move. Otavio would therefore remain under contract with the Saudi club while spending the coming season in Qatar, subject to the completion of the transfer.

For Al-Rayyan, the deal would provide the opportunity to add an experienced player to a squad that has already collected maximum points from its first two league fixtures. The club’s position in second place underlines the positive beginning it has made to the season.

Otavio’s departure would follow his first campaign with Al Qadsiah, where he featured across a range of competitions. Although he did not find the net, his three assists contributed to the team’s attacking output during his 21 appearances.

The Portugal international previously played for Al Nassr before moving to Al Qadsiah last season. The proposed loan to Al-Rayyan would now take him to a third club in Saudi Arabia and Qatar’s neighbouring football markets, while also giving him his first experience of the Qatari league.

Al-Rayyan are waiting for the remaining steps of the agreement to be completed before Otavio can officially join the team. If the transfer goes through, he is expected to link up with Youssef Aymen, who previously played for Al Ahly.

The move is currently described as an agreement for a season-long loan, with the final completion of the deal still required.
