Pape Cabral could leave Monaco for Al Ahli in €10m deal

AS Monaco are considering the sale of young Senegalese midfielder Pape Cabral to Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli as the French club looks for a way to address its financial situation and meet the requirements of the DNCG.

According to L’Equipe, Al Ahli are pursuing Cabral and have reportedly reached an agreement with Monaco over a transfer fee of €10 million.

The potential move would provide Monaco with an alternative source of income after the club failed to complete the sales of Folarin Balogun and Lamine Camara during the final stages of the transfer window.

Monaco had hoped that the departure of either Balogun or Camara would help strengthen the club’s finances. However, negotiations did not lead to a transfer and both players remained at the club.

The situation has left Monaco exploring other options, with Cabral emerging as a possible solution.

The Senegalese midfielder has a contract with Monaco until 2032 after recently extending his agreement with the club. Despite his long-term commitment, he could now be on the verge of a move to Saudi Arabia.

Al Ahli’s interest gives Monaco an opportunity to raise funds through the sale of a young player while also providing Cabral with the possibility of continuing his career in the Saudi Pro League.

The timing of the proposed transfer is also significant because the Saudi transfer window closes later than the window in France. That leaves Al Ahli with the possibility of completing the deal after Monaco’s domestic transfer activity has come to an end.

For Monaco, the focus remains on finding a way to improve their financial position after the expected sales of Balogun and Camara failed to materialise.

The club had identified both players as possible sources of significant transfer income, but neither departure was completed. Cabral has consequently become a potential alternative as Monaco consider their next move.

The reported €10 million agreement with Al Ahli would represent a substantial transfer involving a player who only recently committed his future to Monaco until 2032.

Cabral, who is from Keur Massar, could therefore make the move to the Saudi Pro League if the proposed transfer is finalised.

With Al Ahli reportedly already having an agreement with Monaco and the Saudi transfer window remaining open for longer, the Senegalese midfielder’s future could be decided in the coming days.

For Monaco, the proposed sale is primarily linked to the club’s efforts to balance its accounts and satisfy the requirements of the DNCG.

For Cabral, it could mean a new chapter in Saudi Arabia despite having recently signed a long-term contract with the French club.
