Wolves sign Ivory Coast left-back Ghislain Konan on free transfer

Ivory Coast international Ghislain Konan has joined Wolves from Gil Vicente on a free transfer, signing a contract with the Championship club until 30 June 2027.

The 30-year-old left-back became a free agent after leaving Portuguese side Gil Vicente at the end of the 2025-26 season. He now moves to England after a career that has included spells in France, Portugal, Saudi Arabia and Spain.

Konan made 20 appearances in Liga Portugal 2 and 75 in Liga Portugal during his time in Portugal, contributing five assists across those competitions. He also played 95 times in Ligue 1, scoring three goals and providing six assists.

His previous club, Gil Vicente, signed him from Burgos CF in July 2025. That move was also completed as a free transfer, following a six-month spell with the Spanish club, which he joined in January 2025 after a period without a club.

Konan began his senior career in Ivory Coast with ASEC Mimosas before moving to Portugal, where he played for Guimaraes B and Vitoria de Guimaraes. He joined Stade Reims in 2018 for a fee of €4m and spent four seasons with the French side.

In July 2022, Konan moved to Saudi Arabia to join Al-Nassr on a free transfer. He later spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Al-Fayha, making 58 Saudi Pro League appearances during his time in the country and recording nine assists in the competition. His career has also included appearances in the Europa League, the AFC Champions League and domestic cup competitions.

Konan has represented Ivory Coast at international level and was part of the side that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2024. He also played in three of the nation’s four possible matches at the 2026 World Cup, starting 75% of those games and featuring for 75% of the available minutes.

The left-footed defender, who was born in Abidjan, joins Wolves with a current market value of €3m and will wear the club’s number 33 shirt.

Konan’s Wolves contract is set to run until 30 June 2027.
