Mohamed Salah set for landmark Yomra tribute as Turkey move reshapes local map

Mohamed Salah’s arrival in Turkey has prompted authorities in the Trabzon province to plan a street named after the Egypt captain in honour of his decision to live in the municipality of Yomra.

Yomra mayor Mustafa Biyik announced that the avenue where Salah’s home will be located is set to become Mohamed Salah Street, subject to approval by the municipal council.

The proposal is intended to recognise what local officials regard as a historic moment for the district, following the arrival of one of football’s most prominent international stars.

Biyik said the council would make its decision this week and expressed his pride that Salah had chosen Yomra as his home.

“We are deeply proud that Mohamed Salah, the biggest transfer in the history of Turkish football, has chosen to live in our district,” he said.

“This week, thanks to the decision that our municipal council will take, we will name the street where the house in which he will live is located ‘Mohamed Salah Street’. We have done our best; now it is Salah’s turn.”

The planned tribute would formally attach the Egyptian forward’s name to a local address, creating a highly visible symbol of the excitement surrounding his move to Turkey.

Salah’s choice of Yomra has generated considerable enthusiasm among residents and supporters in the area. The decision by the local authorities reflects the scale of the welcome being prepared for the player, whose arrival has already attracted major attention across the province.
