Barcelona prepare Tuesday presentation for Gabriel Jesus after Arsenal move

Barcelona are expected to welcome Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus on Monday as they move towards completing a deal that would see the Brazil international become the club’s sixth first-team signing.

The 29-year-old is scheduled to arrive in Barcelona at about 16:00 Spanish time, when he will undergo the required medical examination. According to Mundo Deportivo, Jesus will sign a two-year contract with the Catalan club, including an option to extend the agreement for a further season.

Barcelona are set to pay Arsenal €10m for the striker.

The formal presentation is planned for Tuesday, once Jesus has signed his contract. Barcelona’s schedule means the Brazil international is not expected to be introduced on Monday, when the club face Rayo Vallecano at Spotify Camp Nou.

That match, which kicks off at 21:30 local time, is part of the third round of La Liga.

Jesus’ arrival would complete Barcelona’s first-team recruitment after the additions of Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, Rodri, Joao Cancelo and Dominik Livakovic. The move would also give manager Hansi Flick another option in the central striker position.

Flick highlighted the need for a recognised number nine at the end of last season. Barcelona sporting director Deco also referred to the same requirement on 19 August, following the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Egyptian side Al Ahly.

The signing is therefore viewed as an important opportunity for Barcelona, who have been looking to fill the space left by a forward such as Robert Lewandowski. Jesus would provide an alternative attacking option as the club reshapes its forward line.

Barcelona’s attack has already changed this season with the arrivals of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, following the departures of Lewandowski, Ferran Torres and Marcus Rashford.

The proposed transfer would bring Jesus to La Liga after his spell with Arsenal. He would join Barcelona at a time when the club are seeking greater depth in the number nine role and further changes to their attacking options.
