Kane opens door to extended Bayern Munich stay as contract discussions get under way

Harry Kane has confirmed that talks over a new contract with Bayern Munich have begun, while acknowledging that the agreement could be the final major deal of his career.

The England captain joined Bayern from Tottenham in the summer of 2023 and, in only three seasons, has established himself as one of the German club’s most important players.

Kane’s statistics underline his influence. He has scored 146 goals in 149 official appearances for Bayern Munich and is coming off an exceptional campaign in which he found the net 61 times in all competitions.

He also finished as the Bundesliga’s leading scorer for a third consecutive season and helped Bayern Munich secure a domestic double, winning both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal.

Bayern have made no secret of their desire to keep Kane, whose current contract runs until the summer of 2027. The club now appears to have taken an important step towards exploring an extension, with the player confirming that initial discussions have already taken place.

Speaking after Bayern’s emphatic 5-1 victory over VfB Stuttgart in the opening round of the Bundesliga, Kane said the first meeting had been held the previous week.

“It was the first meeting, last week,” the striker said, according to Sport, while indicating that a number of issues still needed to be resolved before an agreement could be reached.

Kane added: “This is not something that can be done in a week or two. It is about the details.”

The forward also explained why the next contract will carry particular importance for him. Given his age, he suggested that the agreement could represent the last major professional contract available to him.

“I’m 33 years old, so it could potentially be my last contract, or at least my last big contract,” Kane said.

Despite recognising the significance of the negotiations, Kane struck a calm and positive tone when discussing his future at Bayern Munich. He said the situation was developing well and stressed that both sides were working towards a resolution.

“Things look pretty good overall,” the England captain said.

Kane’s current deal means there is no immediate need for Bayern to reach an agreement, but his comments confirm that the club and player have started considering the next stage of their relationship.

Since arriving from Tottenham, Kane has become central to Bayern’s attack and has continued to deliver at the highest level. His latest season further strengthened his standing at the club, with 61 goals, another Bundesliga scoring crown and success in both major domestic competitions.

The early discussions therefore give Bayern supporters reason to believe that Kane could remain at the club beyond his existing commitment, although the striker made clear that the finer points of any renewal still have to be settled.
