Michael Folorunsho switches to Monza for fresh Serie A loan spell

Italian-Nigerian midfielder Michael Folorunsho has joined Monza from Napoli on loan, strengthening the Serie A club’s midfield for the 2026-27 season.

The 28-year-old central midfielder returns to Italy’s top flight after spending the previous campaign with Cagliari. That loan ended on 30 June, when Folorunsho went back to Napoli before making his latest move on 28 August.

Folorunsho’s spell at Monza is scheduled to run until 30 June 2027. No transfer fee has been recorded for the deal.

Born in Rome, the right-footed player stands at 1.90m and has spent much of his career moving between clubs on loan from Napoli. His previous Serie A temporary spells included Fiorentina and Hellas Verona, while he also played for Cagliari during the 2025-26 campaign.

He joined Napoli from Virtus Francavilla in July 2019 for €1m, later beginning a series of loan assignments that also took him to Bari, Reggina and Pordenone. The move to Napoli followed his development at Lazio, where he progressed through the club’s youth system after starting with Savio.

Folorunsho has also been part of a Napoli squad that won the Italian championship in the 2024-25 season. He now joins a Monza side competing in Serie A, with the club adding his experience and versatility in central midfield.

His arrival comes after a season in which he returned to Napoli from Cagliari at the end of his loan agreement. He had been registered with Napoli before completing the switch to Monza, where his current market value is €5m.

The move gives Folorunsho another opportunity to establish himself in Serie A after a career that has included repeated temporary transfers. His earlier loans were arranged by Napoli to provide spells at Bari, Reggina, Pordenone, Hellas Verona, Fiorentina and Cagliari.

Monza have now secured Folorunsho’s services for the 2026-27 campaign, while his recorded agreement with the club ends on 30 June 2027.
