Lilian Brassier set to leave Stade Rennais for Eintracht Frankfurt after change of heart

Lilian Brassier has agreed to join Eintracht Frankfurt after initially being reluctant to leave Stade Rennais, according to Santi Aouna.

The defender, who is of Togolese origin, has now given the German club the green light to continue his career in the Bundesliga. Stade Rennais and Eintracht Frankfurt have also reached an agreement in principle over a transfer worth €8.5m, with additional bonuses potentially taking the overall value higher.

The deal would provide Stade Rennais with a significant financial return for a player who remains under contract with the French club.

Brassier is expected to travel to Germany this weekend, provided the final formalities are completed as planned. He will undergo a medical before being able to finalise his move and formally commit to Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 25-year-old is contracted to Stade Rennais until 2029 and is currently valued at €12m by Transfermarkt. His move to Germany will give him the opportunity to take on a new challenge in a league widely regarded as demanding and highly competitive.

Brassier will hope to establish himself at Eintracht Frankfurt and make further progress in his career after deciding to end his time with Stade Rennais. His agreement represents a change in position after he had previously been hesitant about leaving the French club.

Stade Rennais are due to play their second Ligue 1 match of the season against Le Mans shortly. The fixture comes as the club prepares for the possibility of Brassier’s departure, although his transfer is still dependent on the completion of the medical and other final procedures.
